Public STAC catalogs and APIs

103 public STAC catalogs and STAC APIs — 34 APIs with Item Search and 69 static catalogs — that open in STAC Lens from its landing page. Every entry is a real, live, cross-origin-readable STAC root — except 3 that currently fail and are kept, each marked "not reachable since" below with the reason —, checked by a script against the server itself (reachable, CORS, stac_version, declared kind, something to show within three link hops) and re-checked every week; the last full pass was 2026-09-17. This is the list of catalogs the maintainers verified, not a directory of all STAC in the world — STAC Index is that, and most entries here were taken from it. Criteria, tags and the removal log: docs/CATALOGS.md.

Each entry links to the catalog's own root URL and to the same catalog opened in STAC Lens, where its structure, extents and health findings are drawn. Tags (topic, region, publisher) are an editorial vocabulary defined below.

Neither STAC nor STAC Index classifies catalogs, so the landing page's facet filters rest on an editorial vocabulary of our own, defined in src/data/catalogTags.ts and here. It is closed: a record may only use the values below (a unit test and the verifier reject anything else), and adding a value means adding it in both places with a definition. Every assignment is a judgment made from the catalog's own title, description and a look at its contents; a wrong one is fixed by a pull request that changes the record, the same as any other data fix.

Filtering is a union within a facet and an intersection across facets: "Elevation or Imagery, in Oceania, from a government".

Continents, not countries, by decision: a hundred records are manageable by hand at this grain and the chip row stays short. global is for catalogs whose coverage is worldwide or spans several continents; a national catalog gets its continent.
